The OBA has decided a long-standing pre-crisis policy will continue, which means that umpires who do not certify in 2021 will be dropped down a level if they choose to re-certify in 2022. So, if you were a level 2.2 (for example) in 2020, and do not re-certify in 2021, you will be considered a level 2.1 when you want to re-certify in 2022. Concurrent with that, all certification courses will be online for 2021, and fees will be reduced as well. So you can (re)certify as a level 1 for $15, or as a level 2 for $25, by completing an online course. As this is written, we can’t assure anyone that any games will be played in 2021.
